Kovalam Beach

Kovalam is known for the three crescent shaped beaches. Take a plunge in shallow water. Get a bird’s eye view from the heights of the 35m tall light house on a hillock.

Veli Tourist Village

A 12 km drive from Thiruvananthapuram city, the Veli Tourist Village has the Veli Lagoon meeting the Arabian Sea with just a narrow stretch of beach separating them. It boasts a number of sculptures by artist KanayiKunhiraman. A great picnic spot for boating.

Akkulam Tourist Village

Located at about 10 km from Thiruvananthapuram city, Aakulam tourist village beckons tourists from far and near. Picnicking in the children’s park and boating are the main activities. There is a swimming pool too for both adults and children.

Padmanabhapuram Palace

Padmanabhapuram Palace is an architectural marvel spread across a sprawling seven acres. There are 14 palaces in all which were completed by the 18th century, noteworthy for wood works, sculptures and carvings. Certain rare items such as mural paintings, Belgian mirrors, antique vessels and utensils, furniture, a four poster medicinal bed and more can be seen in one of the best preserved palaces in Kerala.

Varkala Beach

Locally known as Papanasam beach, it is located about 45km from Thiruvananthapuram. It is a popular belief that a dip in its waters has the power to wash away the sins and consequently many believers come here to bathe. On either side of the beach are two cliffs offering a great view of the sea. The 2000 year old Janardhana Temple situated here also draws devotees.

Shankumugham Beach

This beach is close in proximity to Thiruvananthapuram International Airport so has people flocking in to relax in sea breeze and watch the glorious sunset in the evenings. There is a huge statue of Matsyakanyaka (Mermaid) on this beach which has attained much praise and appreciation.

Ponmudi

Ponmudi is a very beautiful hill station located about 65 km away from Thiruvananthapuram International Airport. An absolute must see for nature lovers it will soothe the senses with the sight of tea plantations, profusion of wild flowers and foliage. Trekking is another much loved activity here in Ponmudi.

Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple

The well-known temple dedicated to the Hindu deity Lord Vishnu. The idol here is about 18 feet long with Lord Vishnu reclining on the serpent, Anantha. This temple forms one of the landmarks of Thiruvananthapuram with its magnificent architecture, countless statues and exquisite decor. Considered the wealthiest temple in the world, there are huge collections of gold, diamond and precious jewels kept hidden in its subterranean vaults.
